Low-dose Mammography: A procedure which uses the lowest possible dose of X-rays to detect tumors in the breast tissue.

Ultrasound: A painless procedure which uses high-energy sound waves to scan the breast tissue, primarily to detect cysts (fluid –filled sacs). No X-rays are used.

CAD: Second look, computer-assisted diagnosis.

Needle Aspiration Biopsy: A non-surgical removal of sample cells from masses found within the breast tissue. The sample is then tested for the presence or absence of cancer cells. This procedure often eliminates the need for surgical biopsy.

Stereotactic Core Biopsy: A non-surgical removal of sample cells from non-palpable masses (masses that cannot be felt) in the breast tissue.

Cytology of Breast Fluids: A sample of breast discharge is tested for the presence or absence of cancer cells.

Duct Injection: An injection of a small amount of radiographic contrast into the milk duct to enable the delineation of small abnormalities in the breast.
